Wally Wood is the comic art equivalent of Paul McCartney or Elvis, one of the true all time greats. From his brilliant work at EC Comics, Mad Comics and Magazine, to Thunder Agents and his classic early Marvel Daredevil stories, he is firmly entrenched on the Mt. Rushmore of comic artists!
Focuses on one of the all-time greatest comic book artists at the absolute peak of his creative powers: Wally Wood. EC Comics was quite likely the finest comics line ever produced, and Wood, as one of its mainstays, set an incredibly high artistic standard. This volume contains a wonderful selection of stories in original art form by Wood, including My World, Came the Dawn, Mars Is Heaven, He Walked among Us, and more. Additionally, there is a fantastic gallery section of covers by Wood. If you’ve never seen Wood original art, you’ve never seen Wally Wood!Bill Gaines, besides being the publisher of EC (Entertaining Comics), was one of its main writers. Together with writer/artist Al Feldstein, the long-running editor of MAD Magazine, he crafted many of Wood’s classic science-fiction stories. Harvey Kurtzman, the legendary creator of and first editor of MAD Magazine, wrote many of Woods’ classic war tales.
Wally Wood was born in 1927 and is recognized as one of the finest comic book artists of all time. He is noted for his work for EC Comics, especially the science-fiction titles and classic covers, as well as their groundbreaking MAD comics (where he drew the iconic “Superduperman” parody in the first issue). He handled the art on the last story of Will Eisner’s classic “The Spirit in Outer Space” storyline. He would continue to produce extraordinary work for Warren Publishing, Tower Publishing (Thunder Agents), Marvel (Daredevil), and many more. Wood died in 1981 at the age of 54.KR
