Ed is losing his moorings. Coming from a long line of farmers in the Herefordshire hills, he has struck out alone in London, but found only uncertainty so far – a relationship he can’t quite move forward, a job that just pays the bills.
Now his mother, in the latest battle of their fraught relationship, wants him to come home to the farm, and Ed is forced to decide whether to let his history define him.
Can he push against the tide for a happiness that’s always seemed just out of reach? And if he does, what will be lost to him in the process? Barney Norris has been the recipient of the International Theatre Institute’s Award for Excellence, the Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright, a South Bank Sky Arts Times Breakthrough Award, an Evening Standard Progress 1000 Award, a Betty Trask Award and the Northern Ireland One Book Award. His work has been translated into eight languages. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, teaches Creative Writing at the University of Oxford where he is the Martin Esslin Playwright in Residence at Keble College, Oxford, and regularly reviews fiction for the Guardian.
