Description
The History of English Interiors is the first complete history of English interior decoration. Using contemporary illustrations in combination with specially commissioned photographs, it details and discusses all the styles and periods of English decoration. Beginning with the Normans, this book traces the development of the English interior through to such diverse styles as Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Palladian. The great English architects and designers – from Inigo Jones in the seventeenth century to John Fowler in the twentieth – are all included and their influences explained in depth.
Alan Gore trained at the Architectural Association, London. From 1950 until 1977 he was a partner in the architectural practice of Gore, Gibbert and Saunders specializing in the restoration of houses in France and the UK.
Ann Gore also trained at the Architectural Association. Since 1980 she has lectured extensively in America on English social history and the decorative arts.
