Description
A catalogue of French works, 1601 – 1850, in the Founders Library, University of Wales, Lampeter. In total these number approximately 1500 titles or 2000 volumes. The catalogue is preceeded by an introduction outlining the history of the library and providing an overview of the collection of French books. This collection is important because of its size, the broad range of fields of interest contained within it, the inaccessibility of many titles in modern editions, and the intrinsic bibliographical or cultural importance of many of the individual items.
D.J. Culpin is a lecturer in French at the University of St Andrews and a committee member and the British Correspondent of the Marivaux Society. He is the author of Marivaux and Reason (Peter Lang, 1993) and La Rochefoucauld: Maximes (Grant and Cutler).
“ . . . this handsome volume . . . is clearly an important research tool and one which research libraries should certainly acquire . . . a fine achievement. This is a worthy task well completed and the author is to be congratulated.” –Modern Language Review
