John Davies is one of Wales’s leading historians.  Previously a lecturer at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, he is now a freelance writer and broadcaster.  He spends his time toing and froing between Cardiff and Aberystwyth, where he is the proud owner of a two-hectare garden.  He is the author of Cardiff and the Marquesses of Bute (1981), Hanes Cymru (1990), A History of Wales (1994), Broadcasting and the BBC in Wales (1994), The Making of Wales (1996), and The Celts (2000).
